Legends are defined as narratives that tell a series of real and/or imaginary facts about a specific place and time. They usually undergo modifications over time, so there may be many versions of the same legend.

They are also characterized by having archetypal characters, by transmitting important values and teachings for the community and by having inspiring endings. Some types of legends can be distinguished:

Religious legends: they narrate events of feats against evil, the life of saints and heroic characters.

Ethological legends: they speak of the origin of nature, such as those that exist among indigenous peoples.

Eschatological legends: they refer to stories of the afterlife or life after death.

Urban legends: refer to traditions and events of current life in the different cities of the world.

Rural legends: those passed down in the countryside.
