Summary of Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and his cousin Benvolio receive the news that there will be a masquerade party at the Capulets’ house.

Clearly, they weren’t invited, but Romeo happily decides to go because he thinks his unrequited love Rosalina will be there.

Already at the party, he does not meet Rosaline, but he does meet Juliet, with whom he instantly falls in love and she with him.

Another cousin of Romeo, Mercutio, warns him that the families would never accept their relationship since he is a Montague and she is a Capulet.

However, this did not matter to Romeo, who can only think of having his love forever.

After declaring his love for Juliet on the balcony of her house, Romeo asks the town clergyman, Friar Lawrence, to marry them. He agrees, thinking it was a good way to end the rivalry between the families.

Romeo and Juliet get married in secret. But, Juliet’s father already had another candidate to marry her: the young Paris.

She, of course, refuses for a while, until she had to accept, but not before making a plan with Friar Lawrence to escape the impending wedding and meet Romeo and thus flee far away.

A series of entanglements and unfortunate coincidences turn the plan of the lover and the priest into an inevitable path to death.

Will the Capulets and Montagues be able to overcome their war in honor of the painful losses of their loved ones?
