Summary of Think and Grow Rich

This book is developed through 13 principles that the author considers essential to create wealth. Let’s see what they are.

Desire

Success stories begin with a desire. The author calls it: a burning desire for which, once installed inside us, we would do anything to see it materialize.

This burning desire will give us the fuel we need to take action and must be well defined in order to become a goal.

Faith

Napoleon Hill defines it as a state of mind that can be achieved through autosuggestion, that is, the repetition of instructions to one’s subconscious.

In fact, he claims that it is the only method by which one can voluntarily grow the emotion of faith.

“Faith is the “eternal elixir” that gives life, power and action to the impulse of thought!” he says. As successful results are seen, faith grows and takes hold.

Autosuggestion

It is described throughout the book as a great power to feed the subconscious with positive thoughts.

However, it is also powerful enough to become a destructive force that prevents us from achieving our goals..

Hence the importance of not leaving our thoughts on autopilot.

Specialized knowledge

General knowledge is not enough to achieve success. We need to have specialized knowledge that is required by people willing to pay for it.

On the other hand, the author clarifies that knowledge has no power if it is not organized and oriented towards a well-defined plan of action.

Imagination

It is where plans are conceived, that is, where desire is shaped and where we are inspired to act.

The author distinguishes two types of imagination: the synthetic imagination, which is the one with which we create new combinations from old ideas, plans or concepts. And the creative imagination, which comes from presentiments or inspirations.

This imagination only arises when the conscious mind works at a very fast pace, thanks to a very strong desire. Few people are able to cultivate it.
