Summary of The Great Gatsby

Nick Carraway rents a house on Long Island in the summer of 1922. He is neighbors with millionaire Jay Gatsby, who constantly throws parties without participating in them.

Actually, Gatsby is a great mystery to Nick, who has not been invited to his parties yet, but he meets with his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom.

In those gatherings he meets Jordan Baker, who confesses that Tom is having an affair with a woman named Myrtle.

Nick somehow becomes an accomplice in the affair by accompanying Tom to meet Myrtle in an apartment in New York.

Finally, Nick is invited to one of Gatsby’s wild parties where he learns from Jordan that the millionaire has always been in love with his cousin Daisy.

All the parties that Gatsby throws are really to get Daisy’s attention, in hopes that she comes to one.

Gatsby asks Nick to arrange a meeting with Daisy, and he complies. After a less than ideal encounter, a spark arises between Gatsby and Daisy. However, soon enough Tom learns about this affair.

Gatsby and Tom discuss the matter and, after all, Daisy realizes that her loyalty must be to her husband, after learning that Gatsby’s fortune did not come from the best sources.

Some time later, a series of tragedies put an end to this love story in the worst possible way.
