The Life of Lazarillo de Tormes and of His Fortunes and Adversities is an anonymous Spanish novel, written in the first person and epistolary style, whose oldest known editions date from 1554. It is an autobiographical account of the life of a boy, Lazaro de Tormes, in the 16th century.
It is considered a precursor of the picaresque novel due to elements such as realism, first-person narration, itinerant structure, service to several masters, and moralizing and pessimistic ideology.
Lazarillo de Tormes is an ironic and merciless sketch of the society of the time, showing its vices and hypocritical attitudes, especially those of the clergy and religious.

The Decameron is considered a masterpiece of prose, it was written between 1351 and 1353 by the author Giovanni Boccaccio, an Italian narrator and poet, born in Certaldo (Republic of Florence), in 1313.
