2) Treasure Island

Author: Robert Louis Stevenson

Treasure Island is an adventure novel that tells a story of “buccaneers and buried gold”. Its influence is enormous on the popular perception of pirates, including such elements as treasure maps marked with an “X,” schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged sailors carrying parrots on their shoulders.

As one of the most frequently dramatized novels, Treasure Island was originally considered a coming-of-age story and is notable for its atmosphere, characters, and action.

It was originally serialized in the children’s magazine Young Folks from 1881 to 1882 under the title Treasure Island or the Mutiny of Hispaniola, credited under the pseudonym “Captain George North.” It was first published as a book on November 14, 1883.

3) A Christmas Carol

Author: Charles Dickens

It tells the story of a greedy and selfish man named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation after being visited by a series of ghosts on Christmas Eve.

A Christmas Carol was written and published during the Victorian era, a time when there was a great nostalgia for old Christmas traditions and new customs such as Christmas trees and greeting cards were beginning to be introduced.

Dickens’ inspirations for writing the novel seem to be many and varied, but the main ones are the sad and humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and various Christmas stories and fairy tales.
